Kinja'd!!!

That dressing in clothes that match your car make both you and your car that much less attractive?

No, I don’t mean in the sexually attractive way either.

I was at cars and coffee this morning and am used to seeing several of the Ferrari clad douches there, including the one who snubbed me until he saw me getting into my Ferrari (I still refuse to acknowledge his existence).

Today, I see this nice white SL63 Black Series pulling in, so I head over to look at it.

Kinja'd!!!

(Kinja keeps rotating this pic. Fuck you Kinja)

As I walk towards it I already knew the owner would be a giant douche as there was a windshield banner that said “SL63 AMG BLACK Series” on it. And yes, the word black was capitalized, and ‘black series’ was bigger than the SL63 AMG part.

As I continue to walk up, the owner gets out, dressed in a black and white matching track suit, scarf, and hat, all with AMG logo’s on it.

He hurriedly opens the hood, and immediately rushes away from his car, to go and stand on the curb 30 feet away and watch people look at his car.

Really dude? Would it kill you to have a conversation with people rather than stand back in solitude while soaking in the fake admiration from onlookers? Would you dress like that had you not driven your AMG to a car show, or would you roll into the grocery store decked out in the same garb? Did you ensure the colors of your AMG gear match the colors of your car so everyone would see you’re the owner as you dodge gazes from 40 feet away so you can inflate your pockets with your low self esteem?

Fucking shit drives me up a wall. / Rant

Some people just have no class, which is mostly exemplified by the noveau riche

“dressing in clothes that match your car make both you and your car that much less attractive?”

You say that, but I’m guessing you don’t have a blue velour interior in any of your cars - or a matching suit.

My wife likes Ferrari gear. She does not own nor like Ferrari cars or their racing teams (she’s currently a Red Bull fan).

I don’t get it, but whatever.

Well....

There is always an exception to the rule I guess.

Fuck now I want a blue velour suit.

Me too. And that adds another to my list of options when the insurance company eventually sorts me out:

1) Take the money, let them junk the car, buy something different.

2) Let them fix the car, and keep it.

3) Take slightly less money, keep the car, buy something fun as well.

4) Take the money, keep the car unfixed, buy a blue velour suit.

Yeah, I mean I don't dress metro for that reason.

Agreed. But I generally don’t care about new expensive cars. If that AMG and say a 308GTB both were at C&C I wouldn’t even glance at the AMG. I can’t even pretend to hold my interest to the 15or so year’s worth of super/hyper cars. They don’t do a thing for me.

But I’m probably in the minority. I went to a number of Dallas C&Cs and they were almost 50% full of fancy new things I never gave a crap about. But I would talk to someone like a Trabant owner for like 10min even though it’s a turd of a car.

Regardless you’re right, as a lot of guys get off on others eye banging their rides.

I have a Ford T-shirt (a couple different ones, actually) and I’m self conscious about wearing it in public. I don’t want to wear it while driving my Mustang, but it seems weird apparel for driving a GMC truck, too.

Farmers are able to get away with (for instance) their John Deere hats. No one else sees them when they’re plowing, and they’re not driving the tractor into town.

These people are what makes events like that less and less enjoyable.

I don’t think that having a shirt or a cap branded as your car is wrong (I have a couple VW shirts), but using it or them JUST for the “admiration” is tasteless.

I’m okay with a hat or a tshirt. hell I own a pair of Ferrari shoes. If this dude pulled up and got out wearing normal clothes and an AMG hat; whatever. It’s the whole I’ve got to scream I drive a more expensive car than you while not being anywhere near my car attitude that kills me.

Exactly. I don’t mind the one offs. Hell if you rolled up in a brand new Ferrari wearing normal tennis shoes, jeans, a normal t-shirt, and a Ferrari jacket over it, okay fine, but head to toe. cmon.

This is why, though some of it is alright looking, I will probably never by any BMW apparel. Maybe a hat, but no clothing. We already get a bad enough rep as it is.

I do, however, own a really cool Shelby shirt. I couldn’t go to the museum in Vegas and not get at least something.

Pish, no idea what you’re talking about. I’m gonna keep wearing this until every single rhinestone falls off:

(Kidding, but I actually do own that shirt, and a few other super tacky Camaro/Mustang/Corvette shirts. You can take the girl out of the trailer park, but can’t take the trailer park out of the girl....)

I agree that wearing branded stuff is super douchey. That said, I still proudly wear my z06 stuff. I dont think that I act like a douche, but it’s hard to judge yourself.

Also, it’s just a corvette. If I waited around to watch people admire my car, I would be very disappointed.

That’s damn hilarious. We hardly have any car brand related apparel at my house! I bought my dad a Porsche Classic hat for his birthday last year, and I’ve got this 911 blipshift shirt, a mustang shirt and a classic Vette shirt. But they don’t make me look like a pretentious D-Bag!! The 911 shirt especially because it’s funny. ^_^

I like these stories, keep them coming!!

False. I literally drive a metro. Anyways I'm more of a tee shirt & jeans type. If there is an auto reference it's subtle, or event.

It isn’t a good look. My car is black with white tape stripes, and I stopped wearing my black tracksuit with white stripes specifically for that reason -the last thing I want is for people to think I’m going all matchy matchy on purpose. It just looks a tad too douchey, no matter the circumstances.
